We successfully got SOPA and PIPA indefinitely put off, but while that was going on, it seems there has been a scheme of corporate and government greed going on behind the backs of the people... Many American ISPs (Internet Service Providers) have signed an agreement to prohibit their customers from possessing copyrighted material. On July 12, all participating ISPs are going to completely cut off the Internet for anyone believed to be in posession of copyrighted material, until these customers sign an agreement stating that they will not posess copyrighted material in the future. Welcome to #Dissenters!

Thank you for visiting the deviantART page of #Dissenters, a group dedicated to bending rules and defying normalcy to search for a way to build a better future. #Dissenters is meant to uphold and serve the following purposes:
- To unite the individuals who are willing to stand up to social norms, without forcing us to sacrifice our individual opinions and ideals for this unity;
- To provide a space where we can compare, discuss, and logically debate our ideas of an improved world without judgment and corruption from standardized society; and
- To educate the eccentric, abnormal, creative, and therefore outcasts of society on how to avoid being discredited by its flawed justice system.

Let the future tell the truth, and evaluate each according to their accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I have really worked, is mine.
- Nikola Tesla

#Dissenters is dedicated to freedom - genuine freedom, not the media-displayed American "freedom" full of so many laws in place, so many people telling everyone else what to do, how to do it, what's right, what's wrong, what's acceptable, what isn't, school codes, dress codes, moral codes, social codes, codes of conduct... For this reason, we have only a few simple criteria which a person must meet to join the group. Once one meets these criteria and is accepted as a member, there are no rules. The criteria are as follows:

I. You must be willing to go against the widely accepted social norms to accomplish the achievement of an improved future.
II. You must have some idea of what it is about the system you disagree with, what you would like to do about it, and how this would improve the future.
III. You must be able to tolerate opinions that you completely disagree with.
In #Dissenters, nobody may suppress you for your controversial opinions - nor may you suppress others for the same.
IV. You must be willing to stop discussing a certain topic with a specific person if they ask you to stop.
If a person asks you respectfully to stop going on about a certain topic - say, your religion - in a private conversation with them, then stop. Individuals have the right to walk away and not listen just as you have the right to discuss your opinions with us without fear of suppression.
V. You must be able and willing to debate logically with others on a wide variety of topics, pertaining to what actions, exactly, would improve the future and on what we can do about the corrupt society-based system.

Maturity is often more absurd than youth and very frequently is most unjust to youth.
- Thomas Alva Edison

To join the group, simply comment on the group page or Membership Application and briefly describe something you think is wrong with the "normal" world.
This process is to ensure that you are genuinely resisting normalcy for the improvement of the future, not calling yourself a rebel or non-conformist only because you do drugs and act stupid.

I object to people running down the future. I am going to live all the rest of my life there.
- Charles Kettering

Any member may create a Blog. You may use these to write detailed descriptions of what you think is wrong with society and how it could be improved, to write mock letters to various authority figures describing what you think they are doing correctly or incorrectly, or to provide resources for others to read regarding how to deal with various legal, supression, or other society-related problems.

If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true is really true, there would be little hope of advance.
- Orville Wright

What the Military is Doing Wrong - [link]

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.
